   My ex treated one of our dogs with used motor oil, it worked.

   There are no home remedies that I am aware of for mange. Your pet needs to be diagnosed and treated properly for this condition, if that is what he/she has. Please take your pet to the vet.

   Someone always had to suggest the oil treatment. IF you love your dog so little that you would actually apply MOTOR OIL to it….then go ahead. Otherwise, SEE THE VET. There are no home remedies. ANd you need to make sure IT IS mange. Other skin conditions can seem like mange.

   The vet will prescribe a medicine called REVOLUTION different doses for different size dogs one tiny ampule on the back of the neck once a month for three months its a little expensive but its a permanent cure.

   First.. DO NOT use Motor Oil.. Not a good idea..

   Are you asking because you have a Dog or do you have something like a fox?

   In either case a trip to the VET uis best for this..

   Mange comes in three varieties: Demodectic, Cheyletiella and Sarcoptic. It is caused by different species of mites, tiny eight-legged critters related to spiders

   Since each type of mange is different … The Vet is the best to ID it and trteat it.
   Treatment of dogs has been simplified by the use of Ivermectin in two doses, two weeks apart, to kill the mites. Steroids may be prescribed short-term to relieve the itching until the mites begin to die off and give the dog some relief. Itching usually begins to subside within a few days of the first dose of Ivermectin.
   But each Vet has a little varianc depending on thre animal and other factors sometimes..

   I would not let it go because often there are secondary infections that come along when it is not treated in a timely manner and if you wait it will cost your much more money to trreat and can effect your animals health much worse or even be the cause of death. Also please advise your VET of other Pets with Fur you may have in your home when you see him as they may need trteatment as well if they have been near the affected critter.

   Also note… that Sarcoptic mange is contagious to canines and humans. If the dogs share sleeping places or if the infected dog sleeps on beds or furniture, everyone will begin scratching. It is not unheard of for the family dog to infest the kids, the kids to infest their playmates, and the playmates to infest their pets and parents with scabies. Fortunately scabies in humans is self-limiting, that is the mite can burrow under the skin and cause itching, but cannot complete its life cycle on humans and dies within a few weeks.

   There are NO good home remidies for Mange! Check with your vet! Certain types of mange can also be transfered to humans! DO NOT USE MOTOR OIL OR ANYTHING OF THE SORT! It will burn your dog and cause more problems. If the mange is sarcoptic, and was given to you or your family, would you just slather yourselves in motor oil! I think not. DO NOT DO THIS TO YOUR ANIMAL! TALK TO A VET!

   Do not use burnt motor oil. I does work, BUT the chemicals from the oil are absorbed through the skin and WILL cause liver damage. This will kill the dog in the future.

   You must find out if this is from poor nutrition or is the contaigous kink of mange. You need a vet for this.

    Some feed stores carry a mange dip treatment.
    Unfortunately, there are different types of mange and you need to know which one your dog has.

    One of them is hereditary and not contagious. This one is best treated by the vet, and then have the dog spayed or neutered, as this will help the mange from "coming back."

    Another thing to do is if the mange is demodex mange, (the hereditary kind) you need to have your dog on a human grade, high quality food. This will help keep your dog healthy, and also help keep the mange under control.

    I suggest the foods from http://www.frrco.com/121668 They seem more expensive, but you feed 1/2 as much as regular dog foods, and they wind up only being a few cents more per feeding. This can save you in vet bills by warding off mange recurrences, allergies, and cancers that the by products, fillers, preservatives in most dog foods can cause.

    Do not use motor oil…make sure you get something made to treat mange, and you really need to get the dog checked by a vet to be sure it is not one of the contagious types.
