Help! My cats are constantly scratching. We have had them to the vet. They do not have fleas. They take demcap
s for their skin They have also had lime and sulfur dips to be sure they don’t have mites that we can’t detect. Nothing has worked. Ireally am against steroid shots but feel helpless.Ineed some advise.
What do you feed them? If it is a dry food, try changing to a canned food and adding some extra water and maybe a little cooking oil.
If you prefer a dry food, look for one that is grain free, with no by-products. A good one to check is Innova EVO. I will attach the link below.
Also, here is link to cat nutrition written by a veterinarian and cat lover. I checked and she doesn’t specifically mention skin problems, but doing diet modifications is definitely better than the steroid shots.
Purrs to you and kitties.

Do they have dry skin ? my cat had this. You can cooking oil in there food to get rid of it.

Olive oil, garlic and tuna in natural oils.
Mix these with their food. If it is dry in your area or home, and it is more than one cat with the problem, it may just be dry skin. ]
I would try the natural solutions before meds.

Cats that are constantly scratching might have a skin allergy. These are hard to pick up by a vet. Usually the allergy is caused by food. Most low and medium quality food have corn, wheat, or soy in them, which many cats are allergic to. Try switching to a mostly grain free cat food such as Felidae or Innova. It will take a bit of time for any allergy to subside, so you have to give at a least a month. Also, cats can be allergic to fish or beef. If you are worried about the cost, just remember that you will scoop less, won’t spend as much on litter, and the cats will eat less, so it comes out to a few pennies more per serving.
A good site for picking out cat food is http://www.catinfo.org/

Dry skin can itch, even with Derm Caps, which are very good by the way. If you switch part of their diet over to canned, they’ll be taking in more moisture which will help.
Don’t add more oils to their food if they get a Derm cap a day, they’ll have a strain on their liver if you do,since that organ has to process oils.
And DO NOT give garlic or onion as someone suggested, these are toxic to cats.
