Demodectic Mange questions?
I have a Bull Terrier pup that got diagnosed with Demodectic Mange. And I’m wondering how long it takes before he gets rid of this problem, I asked the vet and didn’t really get a straight answer. And just curious anyone else have a dog with this problem.
And another question He is being treated with a medicated shampoo and being dipped twice a month with Mitaban and the vet stressed over and over to make sure I wear gloves when I dipped him,So if it is harmful to me wouldn’t it be just as harmful to my puppy?
My puppy is going through the dips at the vet’s office (they have a groomer there who we drop the puppy off, pick him up at night). He’s so far had 3 dips and is looking MUCH better, but when we go to the vet again on Saturday, I wouldn’t be surprised if he needs one more (she estimated that it would be 2-4 dips in total). As my vet said, they do one more past resolution. However, after just the first two dips (accidentally done two weeks in a row when they should have been every other week), his fur started coming back and he looks more like a happy puppy than a “mangy mutt”.
Also, from the way I understood it, the Mitaban isn’t harmful, but it can give your dog side effects (our puppy tends to be much more subdued and has runny stool for a day or two after the dip). My boyfriend and I cuddle and pet him as much as usual with no problems, but as a precaution we DO keep him separate from our other puppy for the night.

Mange are skin mites, and they can be difficult but not impossible to eradicate. Have you googled ‘demodectic mange’ online to see what the vets offer as the treatment of choice?

It is not harmful dont worry , and my dog had sarcoptic mange and it took me 4 treatments( two drops per month) with selamectin topical solution to get rid of it .

This is more of an autoimmune issue. It is caused my mites on the dog but most dogs have them all the time. Dogs who break out from this type of mange are able to have it reoccur at any time throughout their lives.
Stress can bring it on. Some have one episode and never have another others have issues for years.
It takes months of dipping and shots to get it cleared up.
Most vets have you wear gloves as some of the stuff has a dye in it and would stain your hands if you get it all over them. It is hard to get out.
I have never gotten any side effects from using it other than stained hands.
We had a dog in rescue who we treated for three months and he never had any more issues.
We have had quite a few come in that we have treated and most do really well.
But it seems like it takes a long time to get them cleared up.

It varies. The shampoo takes longer- a round of ivermectin taken orally is faster and less expensive.

It's an easy sound you can make anywhere. It served in the original phase to establish a robust bridge of communications between you and your dog.
There are stories of them living twenty and years. The kind of food that you feed a pussy-cat makes a difference too.
Just like humans, they shouldn't eat more food than they can handle.
Chin up jc. Twas ever thus in life.Givers and takers. You cant eradicate the parasites; simply bathe the host in medicated shampoo and nice warm water every week.Luv and respectDVD
Oh my god you better be careful he might bite you!!
That is what I would say if I didn't know better. Good example of a well raised dog. If you teach it to love it will if you teach it to hate it will. Well done man. I too have an american pit bull terrier and he could not be any better behaved or love so much. More vids like this need to be put out there to show that not all of them are these killing machines that the media portrays them to be.
Much love.
Him so cute! And acres and acres of green lawn, oh my. And my favorite sound in the background – train whistle. Sigh.
My big ol' gordon looks like a big black alligator when he swims….he loves it too!
