- Use of neem leaves. The preferred treatment for scabies Ayurvedic people (the human equivalent of scabies) is a paste of neem leaves and turmeric. An easier way to use neem leaves in dogs is to make a tea leaf extract of neem or strong, and dab or spray on skin.
- Make sure your dog also eats a healthy diet with plenty of vegetables, vitamins and minerals. Any processing of neem shows the best results when treating internal and external combined. Consider supplementing your dog’s diet with dried leaves or bark of neem. You can buy dried neem leaves, neem leaf powder or bark powder, either in bulk or capsule form.
- Internal use of neem leaves helps with intestinal parasites, generally allows the intestines, stimulates liver function and strengthens the immune system. In short, it will help your dog cope with the problem of outer skin by fighting from within.

According to Herbal Dog website, neem oil, along with lavender oil and almond oil, rinse the skin to be effective against scabies. These oils are available without prescription in health food stores or garden centers. To make your home a topical treatment, mix equal parts of oil of lavender oil and neem oil with 10 parts of almond. Apply treatment to the affected areas of the skin of the dog once or twice daily. You may also consider the implementation of echinacea, calendula and aloe vera to soothe irritated areas.
Holistic/alternative vets recommend it. It is used for gardening though, so I’m a bit concerned about using it on my dog. Looking for a second opinion. Thanks!
I don’t know about using it for mange, but neem oil mixed with water makes a good but stinky mosquito repellant for dogs. I have never had trouble using it on my dogs.
